Alibaba Cloud’s Self‑Developed Green Data Center Technologies Featured in the 2021 National Telecom Energy‑Saving Product Directory

The "National Telecom Industry Energy‑Saving Technology Product Recommendation Catalog (2021)" organized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has been officially released, and two self‑developed Alibaba Cloud data‑center technologies—a 10 kV AC input DC uninterrupted power supply system and a high‑elasticity cooling technology—have been included in the "green data center" category.

This follows Alibaba Cloud’s earlier inclusion in September as a "2021 Low‑Carbon Green Typical Case – Low‑Carbon Typical Enterprise" launched by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

The catalog, finalized after recommendations and expert reviews from provincial MIIT authorities, industry associations, and central enterprises, comprises three major categories and 74 technology products covering green data centers, 5G networks, and other telecom fields.

The 10 kV AC input DC UPS, successfully initiated in 2020 with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and recognized by international peers, optimizes the distribution link and rectifier module topology, reducing distribution losses by 66 % and achieving an efficiency improvement of over 3 % compared to traditional solutions.

To address data‑center heat dissipation, Alibaba Cloud developed a high‑elasticity cooling technology that uses customized air‑conditioning coil walls and fan walls placed behind server racks, unifying cooling control and reducing airflow resistance and hotspots, resulting in a 70 % reduction in energy consumption versus conventional chilled‑water precision air‑conditioning and a 4 % increase in IT output.

High‑quality development requires innovation, coordination, greenness, openness, and sharing; Alibaba Cloud has been advancing green data‑center technologies such as natural fresh‑air cooling, modular design, immersion liquid cooling, and AI‑controlled temperature, enabling its self‑built data centers to meet national green standards with an average PUE below 1.3.
