1. AR Concept and History
AR differs from VR in that it overlays digital content onto the real world rather than creating a fully immersive virtual environment. The AR process involves: 1) Input - capturing real-world video through cameras (smartphone cameras, AR glasses, etc.); 2) Recognition - identifying faces, gestures, movements, and spatial structures; 3) Overlay - superimposing digital information onto recognized objects; 4) Output - rendering results on screens or AR glasses.
AR glasses come in two forms: integrated (all components in the glasses, but heavier) and detachable (computing units in a handheld device connected via cable). Development for AR glasses primarily requires Android mobile development skills, as AR glasses essentially function as Android devices with 3D display capabilities.
Historical milestones include: Sensorama in the 1960s, Boeing engineer Thomas Caudell coining "Augmented Reality" in 1992, Google's smart glasses in 2014, Microsoft Hololens in 2016, and major SDK releases from Apple (ARKit, 2017) and Google (ARCore, 2018).
