Boost Your Development Workflow: Essential Browser Tips & Must-Have Extensions

In daily development the browser is indispensable for writing documents, debugging APIs, and accessing any resource. I share several practical tips and methods to truly improve browser efficiency.

I originally used Google Chrome but gradually switched to Microsoft Edge. Because both use the same Chromium engine, the experience and shortcut keys are virtually identical, making the transition smooth with no learning curve.

The crucial reason for the switch is that Google accounts often fail in mainland China, while Microsoft accounts work almost flawlessly, allowing Edge’s sync features to become essential.

Password sync is especially valuable. After logging into a Microsoft account, Edge automatically saves website login information to the cloud, syncing passwords across PC, iPad, and mobile devices, enabling seamless browsing without remembering dozens of credentials.

Common Extensions

1. JSON-Handle – a handy extension for manipulating JSON in the browser, with a shortcut to format JSON data. It allows quick preview of JSON without needing an online formatter.

It supports custom hotkeys (e.g., option + J ) for rapid JSON formatting, eliminating the need to search for online JSON tools.

2. AdGuard – a fast ad blocker that effectively blocks ads and trackers on all websites, providing a clean and secure browsing experience.

3. Momentum – customizes the new‑tab page with daily landscape photos and inspirational quotes, giving a pleasant mood each time you open the browser.

All these extensions are freely available in Microsoft’s extension marketplace.

Shortcut Keys

Refer to my previous article on shortcut keys; searching for “shortcut keys” will reveal a list of useful browser shortcuts. Mastering these shortcuts significantly enhances the user experience for any computer professional.

Bookmarks

Bookmarks store permanent, frequently visited sites for quick access.

Collections

Collections hold temporary pages such as blogs, articles, and videos, organized by type for batch opening. Using collections together with bookmarks greatly improves research and writing efficiency.
