My team, part of Alibaba’s security group that researches image‑recognition, adapted the same technology originally used for content moderation and unmanned supermarkets to recognize dishes such as steamed lamb, roasted duck, and stir‑fried vegetables.

We built a prototype: a lamp stand turned into a camera mount, a phone running the recognition program, and a colleague’s computer‑cooler as a base. The robot scans the tray, identifies each dish, looks up its price, and instantly displays the total.
