Chrome OS 101 Update Introduces Dark Startup Screen and Productivity Launcher

Chrome OS 101, delayed from an April 28 launch, was released before Google I/O and brings a dark startup screen that replaces the old white logo screen.

The OS is now branded “chromeOS” (lower‑case “c”) and includes a new productivity launcher, enabled via chrome://flags/#productivity-launcher.

Apps appear in the lower‑left corner and can be grouped by name or color; Settings add a peripheral firmware‑update option.

A web‑based recovery allows internet reinstall without a USB image. More info at the Chrome Releases blog.
