coreutils 9.11 Released with Performance and Compatibility Enhancements

GNU coreutils 9.11 release

On 20 April, the GNU project released coreutils 9.11, the standard collection of file, shell and text utilities for Unix‑like operating systems.

Key changes

Improved handling of multibyte characters in cut, nl and expand.

Added options -w, -F and -O to cut.

Implemented zero‑copy I/O in cat and yes, delivering up to 15× speed increase.

Performance optimizations for wc and shuf.

Extended date to support a new date format.

Various bug fixes and stability improvements.
