DevOps Fundamentals, Development in China, and the GB/T 42560-2023 National Standard
This article explains the basic concepts of DevOps, its rapid adoption across Chinese industries, the common challenges organizations face, and introduces the national GB/T 42560-2023 DevOps maturity model standard along with related certification and training opportunities.
DevOps (development and operations integration) is a practice and cultural philosophy that aims to accelerate and stabilize software delivery by strengthening collaboration between development and operations teams, automating toolchains, and continuously improving processes.
In recent years, Chinese enterprises—from high‑tech internet firms to traditional sectors such as finance, manufacturing, and retail—have widely adopted DevOps to improve delivery speed and quality, supported by tools for continuous integration, automated testing, and container platforms, as well as training and certification programs.
Despite these advances, organizations often encounter pain points: cultural resistance to collaborative, shared‑responsibility teams; difficulties achieving full automation; teamwork and communication gaps; insufficient monitoring and visibility; and security concerns arising from rapid, automated releases.
To address these issues, the China Electronics Standardization Institute (TC28/SC7) established the national standard "System and Software Engineering – Integrated Development and Operations Capability Maturity Model" (GB/T 42560‑2023), which officially took effect on December 1, 2023. The model defines six capability domains, thirty practices, and five maturity levels, enabling organizations to assess DevOps capabilities at both project and enterprise granularity.
Assessment and consulting services based on this model collect documentation from the target organization, evaluate its DevOps maturity across governance, continuous integration/delivery, training, monitoring, and security, and issue a maturity certification along with improvement recommendations.
The article also promotes the DevOps professional certification and announces a new training class starting on March 20, encouraging individuals to enhance their skills and career prospects in the growing DevOps field.
