Discover China’s First DevOps Maturity Model and Its Impact on IT Operations

Global first DevOps standard, the “R&D Operations Integration (DevOps) Capability Maturity Model”, was led by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) together with the Cloud Computing Open Source Industry Alliance, Efficient Operations Community, DevOps Era Community, Google, BATJ, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, and top experts from telecom, finance and other sectors. The model has been formally approved by the ITU‑T, the United Nations’ standardization body, and the China Communications Standardization Association (CCSA).

1. Overview of the DevOps Capability Maturity Model Assessment

The DevOps standard assessment framework covers agile development management, continuous delivery, technical operations, application architecture, security and risk management, as well as systems and tools. The eighth part, “System and Tools”, is now ready for formal assessment.

About System and Tools The “System and Tools” part of the model, compiled jointly by leading domestic tool‑platform vendors, defines seven sections: project and development management, application design and development, continuous delivery, test management, automated testing, technical operations, and secure development. Its technical requirement is to connect the entire software delivery lifecycle with a toolchain, creating a streamlined, integrated DevOps toolchain. The standard applies to organizations with IT software R&D delivery and operation capabilities, providing a basis for third‑party assessment agencies to evaluate software development maturity. The assessment of continuous delivery, test management and automated testing has already been launched.

2. Purpose of the DevOps Capability Maturity Assessment

The assessment aims to help enterprises improve IT efficiency by unifying requirements, development, testing, deployment and operation, fostering organization‑wide collaboration and optimized application architecture. It enables agile development, continuous delivery and seamless application operation, delivering high‑quality software quickly while maintaining stability and responding flexibly to changing business needs.

3. Evaluation Expert Group Mechanism

Each evaluation team typically consists of 3‑5 experts, drawn from CAICT specialists and certified DevOps assessors.

4. Review Committee Mechanism

After the evaluation, a review meeting is held where experts from enterprises that have passed the assessment discuss the results.

5. Evaluation Process and Registration

Registration Period for System and Tools Assessment:

Registration: Now – August 23 (excluding national holidays)

Evaluation: Late August 2019 – Mid September 2019
