Google Launches PipelineDP4J: Open-Source Java Library for Differential Privacy

Google announced the open‑source release of PipelineDP4J, a new Java library for differential privacy.

Differential privacy is a privacy‑enhancing technology that allows analysis of datasets without exposing individual data, enabling researchers and analysts to study data without accessing personal information.

Google claims its differential‑privacy implementation is the largest globally, covering nearly 3 billion devices, and has invested heavily in the technology, previously open‑sourcing its first differential‑privacy library in 2019 and a fully homomorphic encryption translator in 2021.

The new PipelineDP4J library lets developers perform highly parallel computations in Java, lowering the barrier for Java developers to adopt differential privacy.

Product manager Miguel Guevara noted that the JVM version now supports popular languages—Python, Java, Go, and C++—potentially covering over half of developers worldwide.

Google also announced an upcoming library, DP‑Auditorium, for auditing differential‑privacy algorithms, providing tools for evaluating privacy guarantees on fixed datasets and identifying worst‑case guarantees using samples from the privacy mechanism itself, without needing access to internal application properties.

Guevara concluded that Google will continue long‑term investment in privacy‑enhancing technologies to help developers and researchers safely handle and protect user data.
