Studio Bot for Android Development

Android Developer product VP Matthew McCullough presented three new AI‑powered features that embed AI directly into the Android developer workflow, adding support for multi‑device development such as foldable phones and offering seamless integration with the modern Android stack.

Product Director Jamal Eason demonstrated Studio Bot, an AI assistant inside Android Studio that helps optimize code, suggest best‑practice deployments, and generate chat‑based interactions without sending source code to Google. The bot can generate Kotlin or Jetpack Compose code, provide documentation, create unit tests, explain crashes, and even add missing permissions with a single click.

Using Duet AI for Cloud Development

Google also introduced Duet AI as an AI‑driven collaborator for cloud development, enabling developers to build enterprise‑grade applications without deep expertise in security, scalability, or cost management. In a demo, Duet AI assisted in adding Indian‑language support to a shopping site using Cloud Workstation and the Cloud Translation API, automatically suggesting code snippets and handling library upgrades.

Duet AI can also analyze existing codebases, help understand unfamiliar sections, and streamline maintenance of large projects. It is currently available through Google’s trusted testing program, while Vertex AI offers similar experiences, allowing developers to fine‑tune foundational models with their own code and generate new content such as images.

Vertex AI was shown creating variations of a handbag image, demonstrating how AI can quickly produce high‑quality visuals for e‑commerce without managing custom models or hyper‑parameter tuning.

No‑Code Development with Duet AI

Goldberg showcased a no‑code workflow by describing a travel‑approval app in natural language; Duet AI guided the creation step‑by‑step, generating the necessary Google Workspace components. The new chat API, soon to be widely available, lets developers build chat‑based applications, and upcoming Google Meet APIs will enable integration of Meet data and functionality into custom apps.
