Highlights from the 2019 Cloud Native Industry Conference: Whitepapers, SOFAStack, and Serverless Practices

On April 24, the 2019 Cloud Native Industry Conference, the most authoritative and largest-scale cloud native event in China, was held in Beijing.

During the conference, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology released two whitepapers: the "Cloud Native Industry Application Practice Whitepaper" and the "Serverless Architecture Technology Whitepaper".

The cloud native whitepaper systematically explains the main technologies of cloud native architecture, industry implementation practices, development trends, and standardization recommendations. It highlights Ant Financial's distributed architecture technology SOFAStack and the cloud native application platform APaaS, which helped Netbank become the first bank to run its core system on a financial cloud, achieving a 400% increase in overall business capacity and peak TPS during the 2018 Double‑11 period.

The serverless whitepaper outlines the current serverless technology ecosystem, suitable scenarios, development trends, and practical case studies. As a representative case, Ant Financial's Serverless Application Service (SAS) provides a backend‑less platform for Alipay mini‑programs, dramatically improving development efficiency, delivering high‑availability and secure services, and achieving low‑cost, high‑return outcomes.

The conference also awarded ten cloud native technology experts, including Ant Financial's SOFA open‑source project leader Huang Ting, Alibaba Cloud Container Service director Yi Li, and Alibaba Cloud middleware R&D director Li Xiaoping. Since SOFA's open‑source launch in April 2018, Huang's team has released more than 20 related components on GitHub, such as SOFABoot, SOFARPC, SOFATracer, SOFAMesh, SOFARegistry, and Seata.

Huang Ting delivered a keynote titled "Ant Financial Microservice Practice", describing how the microservice architecture, as part of the SOFA open‑source suite, helps enterprises quickly build highly scalable, high‑performance, low‑cost financial‑grade distributed systems.

The event also officially announced the establishment of the Cloud Native Industry Alliance, with Ant Financial, Alibaba Cloud and other companies elected as council members.

Ant Financial possesses deep expertise in cloud native technologies. SOFAStack, Ant Financial's self‑developed financial‑grade distributed architecture, includes components needed for building cloud native solutions such as microservice frameworks, RPC, service registry, distributed scheduling, flow‑control/fault‑tolerance, dynamic configuration, distributed tracing, metrics monitoring, high‑availability messaging, distributed transaction framework, and a distributed database proxy. SOFAStack has been applied in multiple financial institutions, supporting Netbank, PICC Health's leading internet insurance core system, and Nanjing Bank's next‑generation internet finance platform (XinYun+).

Huang Ting affirmed that Ant Financial will actively participate in open‑source and standardization efforts for cloud native technologies, sharing its industry practices to promote broader adoption.
