How AI is Transforming DNS: Insights from China’s 2025 DNS+ Innovation Summit
At a 2025 summit co‑hosted by the National Engineering Lab for Internet Domain Name Management and Alibaba Cloud, over 30 experts from government, academia, and industry discussed AI‑driven DNS innovations, security measures like SRv6 compression and RPKI, and collaborative standards to accelerate next‑generation internet infrastructure in China.
On September 5, 2025, under the guidance of the China Internet Association’s Internet Basic Resources Working Committee, the National Engineering Laboratory for Internet Domain Name Management and Alibaba Cloud jointly held the second meeting of the Next‑Generation Internet Basic Resources Technology Innovation Promotion Group and the 2025 “DNS+” development forum. More than 30 experts from government agencies, research institutions, universities, and leading industry companies attended. The meeting focused on DNS+AI frontier technologies, DNS security assurance techniques, DNS standard drafts, and hot topics in the industry ecosystem, aiming to promote autonomous innovation and collaborative industry development of key next‑generation internet technologies in China.
The discussion highlighted DNS technology innovation, SRv6 compression technology, and RPKI security protection, reaching consensus on the progress of DNS intelligent resolution standardization. Participants also examined recent industry security incidents, offering constructive recommendations. They unanimously agreed that deep integration of artificial intelligence with internet basic resources will inject new momentum into the sector, and accelerating AI applications in this domain holds significant strategic importance.
Liang Zhuo, consulting expert of the innovation group and head of Alibaba Cloud’s DNS team, stated that in the AI era DNS, as the interconnection hub and data entry point of internet infrastructure, its value continues to expand. Looking ahead, the industry should cooperate in three areas: (1) strengthen interconnection of domestic and international root mirrors, authoritative and recursive systems, and improve emergency linkage and fault‑drill mechanisms; (2) promote sharing of DNS foundational data under compliance and privacy protection, enhancing existing security capabilities and governance while supporting AI model training and evaluation to improve robustness and anomaly detection; (3) enhance open‑source foundational software and industry ecosystem, jointly build identifier addressing testbeds and verification platforms, and develop scalable standards and best practices. Alibaba Cloud will continue to open its capabilities to support joint technical research and large‑scale validation.
The next‑generation internet basic resources technology innovation promotion group will keep focusing on the “14th Five‑Year Plan” development needs in the internet basic resources field, strengthening research on technical standard formulation and security protection system construction, to support high‑quality development of China’s internet basic resources sector.
