How Anaconda’s Acquisition of Kilo Code Expands AI Agent Development

On July 15, Anaconda announced the acquisition of Kilo Code, an open‑source, model‑agnostic platform that embeds AI agents into developers’ tooling.

Kilo Code brings a community of over three million developers, multi‑agent orchestration, and a gateway exposing more than 500 models. Its routing policies balance cost, performance, and capability, allowing token consumption to drop 30‑50 %.

The platform operates across Visual Studio Code, JetBrains IDEs, command‑line interfaces, and cloud agents, offering coding, architecture, and debugging modes, as well as automatic code review, remote agents, and Slack integration.

By integrating Kilo, Anaconda extends its focus from Python package management to an end‑to‑end AI development stack: Kilo handles the first AI‑assisted coding prompt, Anaconda Core manages packages, environments, and security, and the previously acquired Outerbounds provides production workflow orchestration.

Governance drives the acquisition; the combined platform scans packages, models, and dependencies for vulnerabilities, enforces policies, audits usage, and generates software‑AI bill‑of‑materials, helping organizations track model usage and costs.

The acquisition’s success hinges on deep integration without restricting developers’ model choices or adding friction. Kilo will remain an independent product during the integration phase.
