How Baidu Mobile Security Achieved a Perfect Score in AV-Test’s Android Evaluation

AV‑Test, one of the three globally recognized anti‑virus testing organizations, conducts rigorous bi‑monthly evaluations of security products using extensive malware databases and standardized testing procedures. In its May 2023 Android assessment, 28 security vendors submitted 30 mobile security solutions for testing across protection, usability, and performance dimensions.

Baidu Mobile Security achieved perfect results: a 100% detection rate for 2,339 newly identified Android malware samples, zero false‑positives among 1,472 legitimate apps, and full scores for battery impact, device speed, and data usage. The product earned a total of 13 out of 13 points, securing the top position for the fourth consecutive time.

The report reflects broader market concerns. According to EnfoDesk’s "China Mobile Security Market Status" study, over 90% of users worry about mobile‑payment and financial app security, and 81% fear unauthorized use of online banking apps, underscoring the growing importance of robust mobile protection.

Baidu’s Mobile Security General Manager Zhang Lei explained that the sheer volume of applications—over six million samples, including more than one million legitimate releases—requires big‑data techniques to identify new virus signatures. Since last year, Baidu has built a cloud‑based scanning system called “big‑data based inter‑application similarity matching,” which rapidly flags suspicious apps. In Q1 2023 alone, the engine removed over 200,000 ad‑ware infections, saving users millions of yuan.

Beyond AV‑Test, Baidu’s engine has earned certifications from the UK West Coast Lab and AV‑C, and now powers security scanning for more than 200 app markets worldwide, having analyzed over ten million applications and cataloged more than 250,000 malware signatures.

Since its public launch in December 2022, Baidu Mobile Security has attracted over 200 million users, capturing roughly 18% of the Chinese mobile security market. In AV‑Comparatives’ Global IT Security Report, it was ranked among the most popular mobile security apps across Asia.
