How Chinese Banks Boost IT Efficiency with DevOps Maturity Models

Amid the broader push for digital transformation, enterprises are adopting DevOps to improve IT efficiency. The "Research and Development Operations Integration (DevOps) Capability Maturity Model" series, led by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), provides high‑value guidance for industry.

State‑owned commercial banks such as Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Bank of Communications (including its credit card center) and Postal Savings Bank of China have collectively completed 21 DevOps capability maturity assessments. Joint‑stock banks including China Merchants Bank, Shanghai Pudong Development Bank, CITIC Bank, China Minsheng Bank, China Everbright Bank, Ping An Bank and Zheshang Bank have completed 48 assessments. City commercial banks and other financial institutions such as Ningbo Bank, Zhongyuan Bank, Zhengzhou Bank, Baixin Bank, Xinwang Bank, Zhongbang Bank and Zhongyuan Consumer Finance have completed 13 assessments.

Statistical data is current as of July 28, 2022, sourced from the official DevOps assessment website and ordered by total assessment count, with ties broken by assessment batch sequence.

For the latest detailed results, see the following reports (titles only): "Nongyin Jinke achieves top‑level DevOps continuous delivery standard 3 and system/tool pipeline assessment", "Zheshang Bank achieves top‑level DevOps continuous delivery standard 3", "Postal Savings Bank of China achieves top‑level DevOps continuous delivery standard 3", "Ningbo Bank achieves top‑level DevOps continuous delivery standard 3", "Zhongyuan Bank achieves advanced level DevSecOps assessment", "Zhengzhou Bank achieves advanced level DevSecOps assessment", "Xinwang Bank achieves top‑level DevOps continuous delivery standard 3", and several announcements of recent DevOps assessment results across various banks.

The DevOps Capability Maturity Model series is jointly developed by CAICT, the Cloud Computing Open Source Industry Alliance, the Efficient Operations Community, major internet companies (BATJ), and leading financial and telecom enterprises. It is the first comprehensive DevOps standard in China and has been published by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, with many leading firms adopting and passing the assessment.

In July 2020, the DevOps standard was formally concluded by the United Nations‑affiliated standardization organization ITU‑T, becoming the world’s first international DevOps standard. The assessment framework covers agile development management, continuous delivery, technical operations, application design, security and risk management, and system and tool evaluation.
