How FAW‑Volkswagen’s Dual‑Platform DevOps Secured International and Domestic Certification

On May 29, 2024, China’s central cyber‑security administration, the State Administration for Market Regulation, and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued the Information Standard Construction Action Plan (2024‑2027) , emphasizing the internationalization of IT standards and the alignment of national standards with ISO, IEC, and ITU specifications.

The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) launched a synchronized assessment based on the ITU DevOps international standard and the domestic DevOps standard, enabling mutual recognition of the two standards. This assessment method directly supports the Action Plan’s goal of promoting international standard adoption.

At the Fifth IT New Governance Leadership Forum in Beijing on December 17, 2024, CAICT announced the dual‑certificate results for FAW‑Volkswagen’s R&D Efficiency Platform and Integrated Operations Platform . Both platforms passed the ITU DevOps international standard evaluation and the domestic DevOps standard ( R&D Operations Integration (DevOps) Capability Maturity Model ) with an Excellent rating.

FAW‑Volkswagen became one of the first enterprises nationwide to obtain both international and domestic DevOps certifications for two platforms simultaneously, demonstrating a leading domestic capability.

Interview Highlights

Q: Please introduce your company and the projects evaluated. FAW‑Volkswagen, a joint venture of FAW Group, Volkswagen AG, Audi AG, and Volkswagen (China), operates three brands—Audi, Volkswagen, and Jetta—with over 30 models. The evaluated projects are the R&D Efficiency Platform, an end‑to‑end toolchain supporting requirement‑to‑release processes, and the Integrated Operations Platform, which consolidates ITSM, CMDB, monitoring, and automation for digital‑transformation of operations.

Q: What improvements resulted from the assessment? The assessment helped refine the organization‑level IT service and tool capabilities, enabling full‑process linkage of development, testing, building, and release, and providing automated metric collection, unified dashboards, and observability for SRE teams.

Q: What challenges were faced and how were they solved? The main challenges were the high complexity and volume of functional points. The teams addressed them through weekly standard‑analysis meetings, task tracking, focused identification of core tasks, and continuous optimization after feature releases.

Q: What impact have the platforms had on the enterprise? Both platforms have become key enablers of digital transformation, improving the quality and efficiency of continuous delivery and operations, standardizing processes, automating resource provisioning, and providing rich monitoring data that accelerates incident resolution and supports future AIOps development.

Industry Context

FAW‑Volkswagen has completed 11 CAICT DevOps assessments (2 for continuous delivery standards and 9 for system‑and‑tool standards). The automotive industry’s participation in the domestic DevOps standard assessment is illustrated in the accompanying chart.

CAICT’s new BizDevOps standard framework integrates DevOps, DevSecOps, and FinOps to promote end‑to‑end business value creation, aligning technology and business goals.
