How OpenAI’s New Alliance with AWS Will Transform AI Computing

AWS and OpenAI announced on November 3 the establishment of a new partnership, with OpenAI workloads running on AWS’s infrastructure.
AWS will build AI‑optimized compute infrastructure, deploying NVIDIA GPU (GB200 and GB300 series) clusters on Amazon EC2 UltraServer.
OpenAI will invest $38 billion in Amazon over the next few years, start using AWS immediately, aim to reach full capacity by the end of 2026, and can scale further as needed.
Sam Altman said: “Scaling frontier artificial intelligence requires massive, reliable compute power. Our partnership with AWS will strengthen the broader compute ecosystem, power the next era, and bring advanced AI to everyone.”
Matt Garman, AWS CEO, stated: “As OpenAI continues to push the limits of AI, AWS’s top‑tier infrastructure will be a solid backing, offering broad, highly available optimized compute resources that uniquely support OpenAI’s massive AI workloads.”
Following a recent renegotiation with Microsoft, which will no longer have priority purchase rights, OpenAI agreed to purchase $250 billion of Azure services.
