How Palantir’s New Skills Turn Enterprise AI Into Reusable Analysis Methods

Update Overview

On August 18, Palantir released a major update to AIP Analyst that adds AIP Skills, Analysis Lookup, time‑series analysis, Ontology interfaces and export options to Notepad, Quiver, Contour and other Foundry resources.

Skills – Reusable Commands

Skills are defined as a set of reusable instructions that an Agent can invoke. Users manage Skills in the AIP Analyst Settings, can create or update a Skill from an ongoing analysis, and can export a conversation as a Skill. A Skill represents a repeatable analysis method rather than a static result snapshot.

Analysis Lookup – Template‑Based Reuse

Analysis Lookup lets an Agent load a recent or bookmarked historical analysis by RID. The loaded analysis serves as a template; it shows which resources and tools were used, but the actual tool executions are re‑run on current data, avoiding stale results.

Extending Agent Memory

Traditional Agent Memory stores past content (chat logs, documents). The new Skills and Analysis Lookup add a “method memory” layer, allowing the Agent to remember not only what was said but also how analyses were performed.

Ontology Integration

AIP Analyst is built on Palantir’s Ontology system, which unifies data, logic, actions and security into a single business representation. The update leverages this foundation to search object types, build object sets, execute Ontology SQL, perform aggregations and generate visual outputs.

Design Implications

The update does not replace the existing semantic search or constitute a new Agent Memory architecture; it simply adds a mechanism for reusing analysis methods alongside content retrieval. From a product perspective, enterprise AI can now accumulate “how‑to‑analyze” knowledge, extending its capabilities beyond mere content recall.
