How to Build Reusable Component Libraries in Axure RP for Faster Prototyping
This guide walks you through creating, loading, editing, and using Axure RP component libraries—showing how to package complex widgets like image carousels into reusable assets that can be dragged onto any prototype with a single click.
1. Create a Component Library
Start by creating a new library file and give it a meaningful name, for example Common.rplib. The library consists of folders (used as group names) and components (the actual reusable widgets).
After saving the library, refresh the library panel to see the new items. Note that version 8.1.0.3392 has a bug where renamed folders may not appear until the application is restarted.
To create a carousel widget, treat it like any other component: design the layout, add interactions, and configure properties.
Once the library is saved, it loads automatically into the Axure library panel. Drag the carousel component onto a page, then adjust the images and size as needed.
2. Load the Component Library
Select the library file you created and load it into the Axure environment. The components become immediately available for drag‑and‑drop.
3. Edit the Component Library
To modify an existing component, select it in the library panel, open it for editing, make the necessary changes, and save the library again.
4. Use the Component Library
After editing, the updated components can be dragged onto any prototype page just like built‑in Axure widgets. This enables you to reuse the carousel (or any other custom widget) across multiple pages without rebuilding it each time.
