Windows 11 22H2 "Moment 1" Update Overview

In September Microsoft released the first major Windows 11 22H2 update, but the highly anticipated File Explorer tabbed interface was postponed to October. On October 19 the "Moment 1" update arrived, completing the 22H2 feature set and adding multi‑tab support.

What Is the Explorer Tabbed Feature?

The tabbed interface lets users open multiple folder pages within a single Explorer window, similar to browser tabs, instead of being limited to one folder per window. This improves efficiency when switching between directories.

Additional Changes in the Update

The update also modifies how the Task Manager is opened—now it can be launched directly from the taskbar with a single click, simplifying access.

Enabling the Tabbed Feature (Registry Edit)

By default the new tabbed view is disabled. To enable it, edit the Windows registry as follows:

Press Win + R, type regedit and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.

Navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FeatureManagement\Overrides\4

.

Right‑click the 4 key, choose New → Key, and name the new key 1887869580.

Select the newly created key, then choose Edit → New → DWORD (32‑bit) Value, name it EnabledState, and set its value to 2.

Create another DWORD value named EnabledStateOptions and leave its data at 0.

After completing these steps, restart the computer and the Explorer tabbed interface will be active.

Other Notable Updates

Microsoft also improved the taskbar overflow menu, added native Android support, updated the Photos app, and enhanced the file‑sharing experience, allowing sharing from desktop, Explorer, Photos, Snipping Tool, Xbox, and other apps to nearby devices. These features are currently available in optional preview builds and roll out gradually via the Microsoft Store.
