How to Install Jenkins on Windows and Automate Your Build Process

1. Installation

Download the latest Windows installer for Jenkins from http://mirrors.jenkins-ci.org/windows/latest (or the WAR file from http://mirrors.jenkins-ci.org/war/latest/jenkins.war ) and run it.

After installation a Windows service named Jenkins is created, listening on port 8080 by default. To change the port, edit jenkins.xml in the installation directory and modify the <arguments> element, e.g., change httpPort=8081, then restart the service.

Open http://192.168.0.10:8081/ to verify the Jenkins UI; a screenshot shows a successful installation.

2. Create Job

Click “New Item” to create a job, enter a meaningful name (e.g., “hummer”), and choose “Build a Maven 2/3 project”.

Configure source code management; for example, select “Subversion” and provide the repository URL, username, and password.

Set the build trigger to “Build whenever a SNAPSHOT dependency is built” so that a build runs when the SVN repository changes.

Leave the build settings as default (using the pom.xml). In Post‑Build Actions, copy the generated WAR file to a target directory, stop Tomcat, delete the web directory, and restart Tomcat.

Enable “E‑mail Notification”, specify recipient addresses, and save the job.

3. Build Project

From the left menu, click “Build Now” to start a build. The build status icon turns blue on success or red on failure.

After the build finishes, click “Console Output” to view detailed logs and troubleshoot any errors.
