Vercel, a company focused on frontend development, recently released a new tool called v0 that uses generative AI to help developers quickly create new websites and UI components.

The tool works by allowing developers to provide plain‑text prompts describing the desired content; v0 then generates the corresponding components, which can be copied and pasted into an application.

Vercel describes v0 as introducing a new concept called generative UI (genUI), which leverages large language models (LLMs) to produce frontend code that can be directly integrated and further iterated upon.

After submitting a prompt, v0 presents three UI variations for the developer to choose from, with the option to modify the generated code until it meets the developer’s expectations.

The site currently showcases example components such as contact forms, cookie‑consent banners, and dark‑mode ad flows, all generated from sample prompts.

According to Vercel, v0 was trained on custom code, open‑source datasets, and synthetic data, without using any Vercel customer data or code. User prompts and context are used to further refine the model, enabling more accurate and relevant suggestions.

During a private testing phase, the tool attracted 100,000 registered users within three weeks. It is still in testing, with a waiting list for developers who wish to try it.
