Inside China’s 2024 National Advanced Computer Teaching Training: Highlights and Insights

Event Overview

From January 23‑24, 2024, the first session of the National Advanced Computer Teaching Training for higher‑education institutions was held in Songshan Lake, Dongguan, Guangdong. More than 200 teachers from 119 universities participated.

The program was organized by the Ministry of Education’s Computer Science Teaching Guidance Committee and the National Computer Education Research Association, and co‑hosted by Tsinghua University Press and Huawei.

Opening Ceremony

Prof. Jiang Zongli, Vice‑Chair of the Teaching Guidance Committee, Huawei Strategic Research Institute Director Zhou Hong, Huawei Developer Relations Minister Xu Jinsong, Sun Yat‑sen University Associate Professor Bi Sheng, and Xidian University Associate Professor Yuan Xiaoguang attended the opening. The ceremony was chaired by Wei Jiangjiang, head of Tsinghua University Press’s Computer and Information Division.

Prof. Jiang emphasized the importance of cultivating innovative talent and urged university teachers to learn new technologies to integrate cutting‑edge knowledge into curricula.

Keynote by Huawei

Zhou Hong presented the vision of a fully connected intelligent world, discussing recent advances and challenges in communications and computing, and highlighting future directions for artificial intelligence.

Course Highlights

The training featured expert instructors from academia and industry covering a range of topics:

Huawei Cloud Industrial Digital Model Engine (iDME) : Lecturers Zhang Guangzhen, Liu Haibo, Liu Zhen, Wei Xingxing, and Wang Yongbo explained the architecture, data‑model‑driven management, and hands‑on development.

Huawei Cloud Data Warehouse GaussDB (DWS) : Chief architect Zeng Kai, architect Zhou Mengtao, and SQL optimization expert Li Maozeng taught data‑warehouse evolution, cloud‑native capabilities, storage engines, transaction processing, and performance tuning.

Digital Logic and Microprocessor : Prof. Yuan Xiaoguang demonstrated curriculum design using the HiSpark M1 development board, covering assembly‑based LED, kernel, I/O, and comprehensive programming labs.

Ascend AI (Huawei Ascend) : Prof. Wu Fei and Huawei expert Du Peng introduced AI fundamentals, large‑model trends, Ascend hardware, CANN heterogeneous computing, and Ascend C programming.

OpenHarmony Embedded System Development : Associate Professor Bi Sheng and OpenHarmony senior engineer Xu Zijian presented system design, development boards, and practical teaching experiences.

Industry‑Academic Collaboration

The event highlighted the importance of school‑enterprise cooperation, providing teachers with practical insights into national strategies and industry needs, and fostering curriculum innovation and talent cultivation.

Future Outlook

Huawei pledged continued support for talent development, offering more open and diversified resources to strengthen foundational education and expand technical horizons for future computing professionals.
