IntelliJ IDEA 2019.3 Release: Performance Improvements, New Framework Support, and Bug Fixes

Just days after the IntelliJ IDEA 2019.3 RC release, the final version of IntelliJ IDEA 2019.3 has been officially launched, marking the third and last major release of the flagship IDE this year.

The development team focused on overall IDE performance and quality, collaborating across JetBrains groups to improve UI responsiveness, usability, and existing feature stability.

New project highlights include support for emerging micro‑service frameworks such as Micronaut, Quarkus, Helidon, and long‑awaited MongoDB integration.

Better Performance

1, Faster IDE startup.

2, Overall improved UI responsiveness with fewer freezes.

3, Reduced memory consumption, especially during Gradle project imports.

Improvements to Existing Feature Quality

1, Dynamic plugin installation eliminates the need to restart the IDE when loading or unloading plugins, currently enabled for theme and key‑map plugins.

2, Numerous usability enhancements in the version‑control subsystem.

3, Redesigned the "Clone" dialog to unify UI for projects from different VCS hosting services.

4, Enhanced Java 13 support, including significant improvements for Java 13 Text Blocks.

......

Support for New Frameworks and Technologies

1, Rich coding assistance and navigation for next‑generation micro‑service frameworks (Micronaut, Quarkus, Helidon) and added support for Spring Web Flux.

2, New "Endpoints" tool window provides an aggregated view of client and server APIs.

3, Extended support for API documentation specifications.

4, Long‑awaited MongoDB support.

......

Important Bug Fixes

1, Homebrew‑installed IntelliJ IDEA now correctly locates the installed Gradle directory.

2, Manual Gradle home configuration is easier.

3, IDE now supports password storage via KWallet on Linux.

4, When using JavaFX projects, the Scene Builder tab can display FXML files with an embedded Scene Builder.

5, Fixed window and popup positioning issues.

......

Additional fixes include macOS Catalina font rendering, project opening issues on macOS 10.15, and symbol problems in the "Evaluate Expression" dialog.

Other changes incorporate all updates from Android Studio 3.5, and the removal of bundled Vaadin and Java Applet support plugins.
