JD.com’s Vision for AI-Driven Integration of Technology and the Real Economy

On the morning of March 5, the 2021 national Two Sessions government work report emphasized promoting scientific and technological innovation and deep integration with the real economy, relying on innovation to drive high‑quality development and cultivating new momentum.

Zhou Bowen, chairman of JD Group’s Technology Committee and director of JD AI Research Institute, stated that JD continuously explores five next‑generation computing directions—artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, blockchain, autonomous systems, and cloud‑edge collaboration—deeply integrating with various industries, leading the construction of the national intelligent supply‑chain AI open‑innovation platform and adhering to technological self‑reliance.

In the pursuit of high‑quality development through technology‑economy integration, JD emphasizes trust as a foundation; Zhou proposes the concept of “trustworthy AI” and declares that over the next decade JD will accelerate deep integration, building a next‑generation infrastructure—the JD digital‑intelligent social supply chain—to empower nearly ten million real‑world enterprises, connect and optimize production, circulation, and service, thereby reducing social costs and improving efficiency.

Currently, JD has established a system coordinated by the Group Technology Committee covering retail, logistics, technology, health, and other businesses, and created the JD Exploration Research Institute, focusing on six major technology fields: artificial intelligence, quantum computing, data science, engineering and management, decentralized computing, and technology ethics and philosophy.

In January 2021, JD released the “Technology Reconstructing Social Supply Chain—Future Technology Trend White Paper,” showcasing new business models enabled by technology: intelligent retail across all scenarios and channels, digitally driven intelligent health services, self‑perceiving and self‑decision intelligent logistics, AI‑centric intelligent finance, and AI‑and‑big‑data‑powered smart cities.
