Joint Initiative for High-Quality Audio-Visual Content Copyright Protection Technology Innovation at CCBN2021
At the CCBN2021 summit, industry leaders unveiled a joint initiative to boost high-quality audio-visual copyright protection by advancing hardware security standards, accelerating R&D for secure terminals, encouraging consumer awareness, and aligning with China’s new copyright law and Xi’s intellectual-property directives.
At the CCBN2021 (China Content Broadcasting Network) Integrated Media Digital Copyright Management Summit, joint initiative units for high-quality audio-visual content copyright protection technology innovation jointly released the "Joint Initiative for High-Quality Audio-Visual Content Copyright Protection Technology Innovation."
In recent years, the global ultra-high-definition industry has developed rapidly, with audio-visual content services growing quickly. In the post-pandemic era, internet high-value audio-visual content services have shown upward momentum, further highlighting the demand for high-security-level copyright protection technology. To implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi's instructions on intellectual property protection, and coinciding with the effective date of the "People's Republic of China Copyright Law" on June 1, 2021, stakeholders in China's audio-visual content copyright protection industry chain have united to increase the supply of high-quality audio-visual content, innovate service models, enhance protection levels, and safeguard consumer interests.
The initiative proposes the following:
1. Audio-visual service institutions will implement General Secretary Xi's instructions on intellectual property protection, respect and comply with the "People's Republic of China Copyright Law" and related laws and regulations, actively promote differentiated service innovation for high-quality audio-visual content, and further improve copyright protection levels:
Gradually transition cloud premieres and advanced point broadcasts to intelligent terminals with hardware security levels meeting industry standards.
Provide consumers with terminals meeting industry standards higher-quality 4K/HDR audio-visual content consumption experiences.
2. All parties in the high-quality audio-visual content consumer terminal industry chain will further improve terminal copyright protection technology levels, accelerate R&D and production of terminals with hardware security levels meeting industry standards, and provide better support for audio-visual content experience.
3. Industry-academia-research-application parties for audio-visual content copyright protection technology industrialization should further improve technology R&D support system construction, provide more complete R&D support for audio-visual service institutions and high-quality audio-visual content consumer terminal chip and device manufacturers, and reduce deployment difficulty and costs of high-security-level copyright protection technology in terminal products.
4. Call on consumers to respect copyright, improve copyright protection awareness, and use audio-visual terminals meeting copyright protection requirements to watch high-quality audio-visual content.
China's Audio-Visual Content Copyright Protection Ecosystem Development
During the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, to support and guarantee ultra-high-definition industry development, China established an audio-video content distribution digital copyright management standard system and released 6 technical standards for audio-video content distribution digital copyright management. The industry developed more than 23 DRM service-side components meeting industry standards. The unified DRM client has achieved commercial deployment, and Huawei and others have activated over 70 million terminal devices based on the unified DRM client. China's audio-visual content copyright protection ecosystem construction basic conditions are now in place.
