Meet the Tencent Scientists Who Made the Global Top 2% List

On October 10, 2022, Stanford University released the 2022 World’s Top 2% Scientists list. Tencent announced that eight of its experts were selected for the Lifetime Scientific Influence Ranking and thirty for the Annual Scientific Influence Ranking.

Chief Scientist Zhang Zhengyou ranked 1002 worldwide and within the top 10 in China, placing in the top 3 for sub‑fields such as artificial intelligence, image processing, and information & communication technology.

The selected experts cover research areas including AI and image processing, ICT, medical imaging, and more.

Featured Scientists

Zhang Zhengyou – Tencent Chief Scientist and director of AI Lab and Robotics X. ACM Fellow and IEEE Fellow with pioneering work in stereo vision, 3D reconstruction, motion analysis, camera calibration (the “Zhang method”), and over 250 papers cited 66,000 times.

Yu Dong – Distinguished Scientist and Deputy Director of AI Lab, expert in speech recognition and deep learning, holder of 100 patents, co‑author of the CNTK deep‑learning framework, and a pioneer in applying deep learning to speech.

Liu Wei – Distinguished Scientist leading advertising AI, PhD from Columbia University, former IBM Watson researcher, focusing on machine learning, computer vision, information retrieval, and big‑data applications, serving on editorial boards of top AI journals.

Yao Jianhua – Chief Scientist for AI Medical, IEEE JBHI associate editor, AIMBE Fellow, recognized for achievements in precision medicine, medical imaging analysis, pathology, gene computing, and surgical navigation.

Wang Jue – Distinguished Scientist and director of the Visual Technology Center, leading research in computer vision and graphics, author of over 70 patents, and associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence.

Tang Duyu – NLP expert in the AI Lab, contributing to natural language understanding, code intelligence, and pre‑training technologies.

Guo Diansheng – Scholar in spatiotemporal big data and GIS, with groundbreaking work in data mining, visualization, and spatial optimization, recipient of the U.S. National Young Investigator Award and IEEE visualization competition prize.
