Microsoft Extends Defender TVM to Linux and macOS for Cross‑Platform Security

Microsoft has taken its Threat and Vulnerability Management (TVM) feature beyond Windows, now supporting Linux and macOS.

The company is progressively advancing Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (formerly Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection) so IT professionals can monitor the security of Linux devices.

The TVM capability, previously available for Windows and Windows Server, is now in public preview on Linux and macOS, with plans to bring it to Android and iOS later this summer.

TVM allows users to review recent vulnerabilities discovered in applications and potential misconfigurations across Linux, and to remediate any affected hosted or unmanaged devices.

Senior product manager Gilad Mittelman said that the expansion enables enterprises to discover, prioritize, and remediate over 30 known insecure configurations in Linux and macOS, improving overall security posture, and that Microsoft will continue expanding configuration assessment capabilities for greater visibility.

According to Microsoft’s security blog, the initial rollout supports RHEL, CentOS, and Ubuntu, with Oracle Linux, SUSE, and Debian coming soon.

The security‑configuration assessment in TVM is part of Microsoft Secure Score for Devices; a higher score indicates that devices are less susceptible to network security threats.
