Microsoft Validation OS: A Lightweight, Customizable OS for Hardware Validation

Microsoft announced the new Microsoft Validation OS without prior notice, positioning it as a lightweight, fast, and customizable operating system built on Windows 11, aimed at hardware developers rather than general consumers.

The OS provides a command‑line environment for diagnosing and validating hardware defects while also supporting traditional desktop software, making it convenient for hardware engineers to carry on a USB drive for quick diagnostics.

Validation OS is offered as WIM images for both AMD64 and ARM64 architectures, which can be booted from USB or a hard‑disk installation. The images are publicly available via Microsoft’s documentation site.

Enterprises can customize the system by pre‑installing components such as .NET Framework 4.5, PowerShell 5.0, and additional drivers. Microsoft emphasizes that the OS itself contains no drivers, so users must add the necessary drivers before creating a bootable media.

Detailed technical documentation covering installation, customization, boot procedures, optional packages, auto‑start software, and debugging is provided. See the documentation links for more information:
