OceanBase DBA: From Beginner to Practice – Comprehensive Tutorial Series and E‑Book

OceanBase is a domestic distributed database built on general‑purpose server clusters, leveraging the Paxos protocol and a distributed architecture to provide high availability, linear scalability, high performance, and low cost, and is widely used in finance, government, telecom, retail, and internet sectors.

In 2021, the OceanBase community co‑authored the e‑book "Database Management and Operations: OceanBase from Beginner to Practice" to help DBAs understand, deploy, migrate, operate, and test the Community Edition. The e‑book was updated for the 4.x series, adding new chapters based on real‑world experience.

The tutorial series consists of eight sessions that guide learners through core DBA skills, including hands‑on labs and live Q&A with OceanBase experts. It is divided into three parts:

Part 1: Introduction and detailed usage guides for OceanBase ecosystem tools such as OceanBase Cloud Platform (OCP), OceanBase Migration Service (OMS), OceanBase Developer Center (ODC), OBLogProxy, ob‑operator, and the diagnostic tool obdiag.

Part 2: In‑depth SQL performance tuning, covering common performance problems, analysis techniques, and the SQL Diagnoser tool.

Part 3: Fault diagnosis and troubleshooting, including self‑service guides with obdiag, steps for online issue investigation, information to provide when contacting support, and common problem recovery methods.

The live learning period runs from March 27 to May 29, with five steps for participants: join the WeChat study group, attend each live session, complete post‑session exercises on the online learning portal, discuss issues on the forum, and pass the final exam to earn a certificate.

Certificate holders can receive additional rewards such as the "OceanBase Database Source Code Analysis" e‑book, free exam vouchers for OBCA/OBCP, and potential job recommendations. Early participants also enjoy discounts on exam vouchers and other incentives.

User testimonials highlight how the tutorial helped them replace legacy databases, master multi‑tenant deployment, and broaden their technical horizons, confirming the program’s practical value for students, developers, and experienced DBAs alike.
