Open‑Source AI Desktop App Packs Claude Code, Codex and 21 Assistants into One Interface

Overview

AionUi is a free, open‑source desktop application (Apache 2.0) that runs on macOS, Windows and Linux. It provides a built‑in AI Agent engine and automatically detects locally installed CLI agents, integrating them into a single management interface.

Built‑in Agent Engine

The core engine supplies file I/O, web search, image generation and Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool‑calling capabilities, distinguishing it from typical AI chat clients that only forward an API key for conversational use.

Multi‑Agent Integration

AionUi detects and incorporates more than 20 CLI agents, including Claude Code, Codex, Qwen Code, Goose AI, OpenClaw, Augment Code, CodeBuddy, Kimi CLI, OpenCode, Factory Droid, GitHub Copilot, Qoder CLI, Mistral Vibe, Nanobot, Aion CLI (Rust backend), Snow CLI, Hermes Agent, Cursor Agent, and others. Detected agents are attached automatically without manual path configuration or API‑key entry.

Model‑agnostic API Keys

The application supports over 30 AI platforms and a NewAPI gateway that unifies more than 20 model providers. Switching from Gemini to Claude within the same conversation is seamless, and the entered API key determines the underlying model while preserving full Agent capabilities such as file access and tool invocation.

Office Suite Assistants

AionUi includes three Office assistants that output native files:

PPT Creator : Generates .pptx files with Morph slide‑transition animations. Example: a “Q3 product plan” deck with cover, agenda, content pages and summary, ready for editing in PowerPoint or WPS.

Word Creator : Produces .docx documents, handling academic papers, reports or contract templates via a docx skill that also formats the output.

Excel Creator : Emits .xlsx/.xlsm/.csv files, not only populating tables but also analysing data, creating charts and beautifying formatting.

21 Built‑in Assistants and Skill System

The app ships with 21 specialized assistants, ranging from general‑purpose Cowork agents to domain‑specific tools such as Academic Paper Writer, Financial Model Creator, UI/UX Pro Max (57 design styles, 95 colour palettes), 3D Game generator, Planning with Files, Beautiful Mermaid diagram creator, and Story Roleplay compatible with SillyTavern cards. Each assistant is defined by a Markdown configuration file under the assistant/ directory and can be extended via three skill layers: Builtin, Custom, and Extension.

Remote Access via Web UI

AionUi offers a WebUI mode that can be accessed from browsers on phones, tablets or other computers. It supports LAN, cross‑network, and server deployments with QR‑code or password login, and integrates with chat platforms such as Feishu, DingTalk, personal WeChat and Enterprise WeChat.

Cron Scheduling

The built‑in cron system lets users describe tasks in natural language, e.g., 每天早上 9 点汇总昨天的销售数据生成 Excel, and choose one of three scheduling modes: standard cron expression (with timezone), fixed interval, or one‑time trigger. Tasks can run in the existing conversation (preserving context) or start a new session.

Team Mode (Agent Collaboration)

Team mode, powered by an Agent Communication Protocol (ACP) and a Team MCP Server, enables a Leader Agent to split commands into subtasks and distribute them to parallel Teammate agents. Supported back‑ends include Claude Code, Codex, Hermes Agent, Gemini, Snow CLI and Aion CLI; communication layers can be ACP, Gemini or Aionrs. Results are shared via an asynchronous mailbox and written to a shared task board.

Additional Features

Preview Panel : Directly preview generated files (PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Markdown, HTML, code with syntax highlighting, images, diff files) in tabs with Git‑based version history.

Smart File Management : Agents can automatically organise folders, batch rename, classify and merge files, demonstrated by auto‑archiving a messy Downloads folder.

AI Image Generation & Editing : Integrated Gemini image capabilities for text‑to‑image, image editing and batch generation.

CSS Customisation : Users can write custom CSS to modify the UI’s appearance, layout and colours.

Installation & Source

Installation is simple: on macOS use brew install aionui; Windows and Linux users download binaries from the Releases page. After inserting an API key, the app is ready to use. The source code resides at https://github.com/iOfficeAI/AionUi.
