Oracle Launches AI Database 26ai with Built‑In Agent Factory and MCP Server

Oracle has introduced the AI Database 26ai, the latest version that supersedes the 2023‑released Database 23c (renamed Database 23ai) and adds AI‑driven application development features such as vector search.

The new database supports both generative AI and agent‑based AI use cases, providing tools that let enterprises build agents and agent workflows, thereby advancing automation.

According to dbInsight chief analyst Tony Baer, this move makes AI agents first‑class citizens within the database. The Select AI Agent, built on the 2023 Select AI feature, enables natural‑language queries.

Alexander Wurm of HyperFRAME Research describes Select AI Agent as a framework that lets developers construct, deploy, and manage agents via REST and the MCP server, extending the database’s native capabilities.

Oracle also adds an AI Private Agent Factory, offering similar functionality for non‑technical users.

Stephanie Walter notes that this framework is limited to no‑code deployment of private, containerized agents for platform and security teams, comparable to Snowflake’s managed MCP suite or Google’s ADK model.

To further support agent scenarios, the database now includes MCP server support, allowing developers to build agents or workflows that interact with data stored in the database.

Other features inherited from previous versions include data annotation, vector search, Exadata support, and integration with Nvidia’s NeMo Retriever microservice.

Security enhancements comprise a SQL firewall, Zero Data Loss Cloud protection, and quantum algorithms for encrypting both dynamic and static data.

Oracle states that existing Database 23ai customers can migrate to the new 26ai version by applying the October 2025 update, without a full database upgrade or application re‑certification. AI Database 26ai also serves as the foundation for Oracle’s new Autonomous AI Lakehouse, which supports Apache Iceberg for interoperability.
