Python Script for Generating iOS and Android App Icons and Screenshots

After updating to Xcode 8, the icon requirements changed, and the previously used "IconKit" no longer met the new specifications; the author therefore created a Python script to generate the required iOS and Android icons automatically.

An example of the generated icons is shown in the original article.

The script requires Python 2.7 and the Pillow (or legacy PIL) library; the author notes difficulties installing PIL and recommends Pillow as a drop‑in replacement.

Usage is via the command line: python tool.py [action] [filename] [platform], where action is icon or screenshot, filename is needed only for icon, and platform is ios or android.

Examples include: • Generate iOS icons: python tool.py icon icon.jpg ios • Generate Android icons: python tool.py icon icon.jpg android • Generate iOS screenshots: python tool.py screenshot ios • Generate Android screenshots: python tool.py screenshot android Notes: Android rounded icons require a 512×512 PNG mask with a 70 px corner radius (provided in the GitHub repo); screenshot generation automatically walks through all JPG/PNG files and detects portrait or landscape orientation.
