ReSkate Lets You Play skate. Offline & Host 32-Player Servers

ReSkate is an open-source fan project that enables offline play, self-hosted 32-player servers, and mod support for EA's skate., requiring a legitimate Steam copy; it includes a launcher, runtime, dedicated server with anti-cheat, mod management via Thunderstore, and version locking, but users must trust mod sources and accept GPL-3.0 code with EA-owned assets.

ReSkate Lets You Play skate. Offline & Host 32-Player Servers

What ReSkate Does

ReSkate is a fan-made project that removes the online-only requirement of skate. (published by EA/Full Circle). It lets you play offline, host your own servers for up to 32 players, and install mods. It is not a crack or pirated server — you must own the game on Steam. The project provides three components: a launcher, an in-game runtime, and a dedicated server executable.

Installation

Download the three components. Place the two launcher files into the game directory, double-click the launcher, and press PLAY . After that, your saves are stored locally and the game runs without Steam or EA servers.

Features After Install

Offline play: No EA servers needed. Your skater, gear, unlocks, and progress live on your machine; Steam can stay closed.

Self-hosted rooms: Create public or password-protected Steam lobbies for up to 32 players.

Join other servers: In-game server browser lists public community servers.

Multiplayer features: Proximity voice chat, emoji text chat, party system, invite/kick, ranked modes (Jam, Spot Battle, S.K.A.T.E.) and co-op challenges.

Map freedom: Fast travel, change world time, player count, district level, and rotating skate parks.

Park editor: Place, move, save objects with free camera, auto-snap, and undo.

Skater options: Toggle first-person view, speed boost, noclip.

Mod System

Drop mods into a Mods folder; they merge automatically on launch. Mods can add custom maps, loading screens, cosmetics, and scripts. The launcher integrates the Thunderstore community for one-click browsing and installation. Most changes apply without restarting the game.

Version handling is conservative: each mod declares the game version it targets. Mods that are too old or fail to merge cleanly are skipped and named in the tooltip; the rest load normally. A single bad mod cannot break the whole load order.

Dedicated Server for Hosts

ReSkate includes a standalone server binary that runs on Windows or Linux (native Linux build, no Wine required). It does not need the game installed or a Steam account. First run generates a config file where you set server name and admin SteamID. Players discover it via the in-game browser or a join code.

The config exposes granular controls:

Map pool and rotation

Player voting for map/time changes

Reserved slots for friends

Password protection

Welcome message

Data distribution for hundreds of concurrent players

Proximity voice toggle

Object placement permission and per-player object limit

Anti-cheat watches two categories: speed hacks and score/control manipulation. Default action is a warning; severe cases get kicked.

The server auto-updates: when a new version is detected and no players are connected, it restarts with the update while preserving player config and mods.

Important Caveats

Legitimate game required: ReSkate does not distribute the game. The launcher only fetches the specific version file from your Steam account.

Single version support: Currently targets Steam build 25414733. If Steam updates the game, the launcher downgrades it to the supported build; newer game versions are not compatible until ReSkate updates.

Mod trust: Mods modify game data and custom scripts can execute code. The project explicitly warns to only install mods from trusted sources.

Crash reporting enabled by default: Diagnostics are uploaded to the project maintainers (no Steam credentials). Can be disabled in settings.

Clear licensing boundary: Code is GPL-3.0, but all game assets (images, content) remain EA's property. The project states it is an unofficial fan project with no affiliation to EA or Full Circle.

Is It Worth Using?

If you already own skate. and fear the official servers shutting down, ReSkate lets you keep your progress and play offline. If you enjoy playing with friends, custom rules, or modding gameplay, the room system and mod integration save significant effort. The dedicated server that runs without the game client is especially friendly for long-term hosting.

If you are looking for a free skateboarding game, this is not it — you must purchase the base game first.

Project Background

The repository was created on October 2, 2026 and gained over 500 stars in under a week. Commit history shows near-daily releases fixing concrete issues: server abuse rules, long-distance player data sync, mod conflict resolution.

Notably, the maintainers disclose that parts of the code, reverse-engineering notes, and documentation were written with AI assistance, but reviewed and tested by humans. They openly note that AI-generated code can still contain bugs and encourage issue reports. Given the scope of reversing and rewriting a commercial game runtime in one week, this transparency is commendable.
