Tencent Cloud IoT Hub Enables Smart Conference Badge: A Mini-Program Solution Case Study

At the Cloud+ Developer Conference, Tencent Cloud IoT Hub team introduced an innovative IoT conference badge that enables deeper interaction between attendees and the event.

Traditionally, conference badges served only as proof of attendance. However, this IoT badge allows participants to check venue door status, view crowd levels at food areas, locate fire exits, and more through a WeChat Mini Program.

Tencent Cloud IoT Hub is a communication platform that helps developers quickly implement reliable, high-concurrent data exchange between devices, user applications, and cloud services. The team chose Mini Program as the application layer due to its "no installation, no adaptation" characteristics.

The development leveraged Tencent Cloud Development (TCB) capabilities: no server application needed, no environment setup required, no HTTPS certificate application necessary, and no front-end/back-end debugging needed for launch—significantly reducing development and deployment time. To improve page loading speed, user data was pre-stored in TCB, allowing the Mini Program to fetch initialization data asynchronously during login, greatly reducing page load time.

For the HTTPS certificate challenge within tight timelines, cloud functions were used as routing to forward appid and openid to existing services, solving the certificate issue. With nearly 1,000 attendees representing high concurrency scenarios, TCB's auto-scaling capability handled expansion automatically. The monitoring console allowed frontend teams to clearly view cloud function request curves, user volume, and error logs.

Using TCB's storage, cloud functions, and elastic scaling capabilities, the IoT badge successfully completed its debut at the conference.
