Ubuntu 22.04 LTS ‘Jammy Jellyfish’ – 20 New Features and Improvements
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS introduces twenty major desktop enhancements—including Wayland as the default display server, a lighter default theme, a more compact UI, improved icons, horizontal workspaces, updated app launcher, dock changes, accent colours, new touch‑pad gestures, password‑protected archives, microphone mute alerts, calendar events in the notification area, refined power options, battery‑percentage display, a prominent restart option, revamped keyboard shortcuts, extensive multitasking settings, a new screenshot tool, proper dark mode, and Firefox being delivered exclusively as a Snap package.
1. 默认的 Wayland
Wayland is the default display server in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS. With Pipewire support, screen sharing works out‑of‑the‑box even on NVIDIA hardware. Users can switch back to an Xorg session from the login screen if needed.
2. 浅色默认外观
The Yaru GTK theme now uses a fully light theme, replacing the mixed dark‑title‑bar style. Window close buttons are no longer bright red dots; instead subtle gray back‑dots are used, matching libadwaita in GNOME 42.
3. 更紧凑的 Desktop UI
GNOME Shell upstream changes make Ubuntu 22.04 appear more compact. Panels, pop‑ups and menus have tighter margins, reduced padding, and OSD elements are less obtrusive.
4. 改进的桌面图标体验
The new desktop‑icon extension allows dragging files and folders between the file manager and the desktop, with configurable icon placement and a new default folder position.
5. Horizontal Workspaces
Workspaces are now added and managed horizontally, with dynamic creation and new multitasking settings. Users can access the workspace switcher via the Super key, the Activities label, or three‑finger gestures.
6. App Launcher Changes
The full‑screen launcher slides up from the bottom and pages left or right. It now supports drag‑and‑drop reordering of app shortcuts and shows full names on hover.
7. Dock Differences
The Dock now places the trash can item within the dock and adds a separator between running and pinned app icons. Additional Dock settings are available in System Settings → Appearance.
8. Accent Colours
Ubuntu replaces most purple tones with orange but offers ten accent colour choices that affect GTK, GNOME Shell, and some icons.
9. 触控板手势
Three‑finger swipes open the Workspace Switcher and App Launcher; two‑finger swipes page left/right. Gestures are 1:1 with finger movement for a fluid experience.
10. 密码保护的压缩文件
Password‑protected .zip files can be extracted via right‑click → Extract Here, and new archives can be created with a password option in Nautilus.
11. 麦克风静音警报
When the microphone is muted, a gray icon appears in the top bar, indicating that no audio is being captured.
12. 通知区的日历事件
Calendar events appear in the notification shade/clock applet, with a dot indicator for the current day and a preview card for upcoming events.
13. 电源选项
Three power modes—Power‑Saver, Balanced, and Performance—are selectable in Settings → Power or the status menu. Power‑Saver activates automatically on low battery.
14. “显示电池百分比”
Battery percentage is now shown in the top bar out‑of‑the‑box, without requiring scripts or tweaks.
15. 突出的重启选项
A clear restart option has been added to the session menu in the status menu.
16. 键盘快捷键设置
The keyboard shortcuts page is now a sub‑section of Keyboard Settings, searchable and faster to navigate.
17. 多任务选项
System Settings offers extensive multitasking options, including dynamic vs. fixed workspaces, hot‑corner toggles, and window‑snapping controls.
18. 新的截图工具
Pressing Print Screen opens an interactive screenshot tool that supports region, window, and full‑screen captures, as well as screen recording.
19. Proper Dark Mode
Ubuntu 22.04 provides a true dark theme that affects the entire UI, including GNOME Shell, fixing the half‑dark issue of previous releases.
20. Firefox 将只提供 snap 包
Firefox is delivered as a Snap package by default; upgrading from 20.04 replaces the .deb version with the Snap.
