Uncovering Android Security and Compatibility Flaws: Tools & Insights
Join the Infra Talk session where PhD researcher Xiaoyu Sun reveals how Android security and compatibility defects arise, demonstrates static and dynamic analysis techniques, and showcases open‑source tools for detecting privacy leaks and framework incompatibilities, while outlining future research directions.
About Infra Talk
Infra Talk is a sharing series for software architecture professionals, regularly inviting industry experts, team leaders, renowned speakers, and academic scholars to discuss hot technical topics and frontline practice across architecture, big data, frontend, AI, testing, algorithms, systems, and more.
Talk Topic
Demystifying security and compatibility issues in Android Apps
Talk Description
While Android applications are widely adopted and have enriched our lives, Android defects—flaws in apps or frameworks—pose significant risks, including security vulnerabilities that can leak user privacy and compatibility problems caused by rapid framework evolution. This talk will share experience developing automatic tools for detecting Android defects, present real‑world vulnerabilities, introduce static and dynamic program analysis, showcase past research projects and open‑source tools, and discuss future research opportunities.
Speaker
Xiaoyu Sun is a PhD student at Monash University’s Faculty of Information Technology. Her research focuses on mobile software engineering, especially mobile security and quality assurance, and intelligent software engineering (SE4AI, AI4SE). She applies static code analysis, dynamic testing, and natural language processing to improve software security and reliability, including tools for detecting Android compatibility issues and privacy leaks. Her work has been published in top conferences such as ICSE, ASE, TOSEM, ISSRE, MSR, and IST.
