Visualizing Design Workflows: A Modular Approach with JDC Charts
This article explains how a series of JDC workflow diagrams break down design requests into modular steps—such as analysis, brainstorming, drafting, review, and delivery—allowing teams to mix, match, and visualize processes efficiently across different demand types.
To synchronize design processes with product development and communicate requirements more efficiently, we created a series of JDC workflow diagrams that visualize different types of demand processes as modular components that can be freely combined.
Using an illustration‑type request as an example, the workflow is divided into: requirement analysis, material collection, brainstorming, initial draft, internal review, detail optimization, follow‑up restoration, output, and project summary.
All modules are aligned at a fixed parallel angle, as shown in the diagram below.
Because the steps are largely similar across different demand types, we base the workflow on a few core modules, adding or removing steps as needed, and represent seven categories of demand with seven different fruits.
Each fruit icon corresponds to a specific demand category, making the visual representation intuitive and easy to understand.
