What Makes These App UI Designs So Engaging? 5 Real‑World Case Studies
This article showcases five recent mobile UI/UX case studies—from Xianyu’s IP‑driven two‑screen entry to Alipay’s AI life assistant—demonstrating how visual hierarchy, hidden ads, humorous interactions, and AI features can boost user engagement and conversion.
Hi everyone, welcome to the Tuesday Light Sharing column where we present recent online design cases worth learning from.
1. Xianyu – My – 2‑Screen Entry
The Xianyu app combines its IP mascot and animation in the personal‑center two‑screen layout, creating a fun community atmosphere and increasing click conversion. Visual grading using color and motion highlights high‑priority modules, guiding users and improving exposure.
2. Maoyan – Hidden Ads
Ads are placed on the background layer of the homepage and revealed through sliding gestures. This design sparks curiosity, prompting users to repeatedly swipe and view the ads, thereby increasing exposure.
3. Hanglv Zongheng – Playful Seat Selection
The seat‑selection interface uses humorous icons (e.g., "with kids", "social anxiety") and dynamic illustrations that let users interact with neighboring seats, making the otherwise mundane task enjoyable and personalized.
4. Alipay – AI Life Assistant "Zhi Xiao Bao"
Powered by the Baoling large model, this is China’s first AI‑native service app. Users can complete tasks with simple voice commands, such as booking train tickets, and receive proactive, habit‑aware companionship from the assistant.
5. Didi – Nighttime Ride Experience
During late‑night rides, a themed illustration and tip inform users about fewer drivers and suggest vehicle options, providing an emotional, caring experience that enhances overall satisfaction.
These design insights come from the ZhiXing UED team and will be continuously explored and applied to future product designs.
