Why Alibaba Cloud Became the Only APAC Challenger in Gartner’s 2026 Observability Magic Quadrant

Gartner recently released its 2026 Magic Quadrant for Observability Platforms, placing Alibaba Cloud in the Challenger quadrant and marking it as the only vendor from the Asia‑Pacific region to be included.

At a pivotal moment when observability is shifting toward “AI Agent autonomous operations” (Agentic Ops), Alibaba Cloud leverages its unified observability data foundation, CMS 2.0, together with the full‑scope intelligent operations platform STAROps. This combination allows AI agents to operate 7×24, autonomously performing root‑cause analysis through to closed‑loop remediation.

Traditional siloed monitoring cannot satisfy the growing need for multi‑agent, cross‑system, cross‑domain data correlation. Enterprises now require not only visibility but also the ability for the system to “understand” and “act” intelligently. CMS 2.0 consolidates the previously separate CloudMonitor CMS, Log Service (SLS), and Application Real‑Time Monitoring Service (ARMS) into a single platform built on the UModel data model, breaking down barriers between metrics, logs, and trace data, thereby reducing operational complexity and providing a unified, inference‑ready data foundation for agents.

On top of CMS 2.0, STAROps offers enterprise‑grade safeguards such as RAM‑based permission control, high‑risk operation manual confirmation, agent behavior auditing, and end‑to‑end encryption. Customers can create custom SRE agents, assign responsibilities, permissions, and skills, enabling agents to schedule operations and complete tasks independently. STAROps itself runs as an agent on Alibaba Cloud infrastructure, orchestrating complex cross‑domain workflows. Integration is possible via OpenAPI and the Managed Cloud Platform (MCP), allowing rapid AI‑driven efficiency gains and facilitating the transition to an Agent‑Native intelligent operations model.

Alibaba Cloud’s observability services now span APAC, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America, supporting OpenTelemetry data ingestion. STAROps is also available in the Qoder Desktop plugin marketplace, merging dispersed cloud resources, observability data, and expert knowledge to move operations from reactive firefighting to proactive self‑governance.
