Why C# Is Closing the Gap with Java in the Latest TIOBE Rankings

November 2023’s TIOBE Index reveals Python still leads at 14.16%, while C# jumps to fifth place, narrowing its gap with Java to just 0.7%, as Java slips to fourth with its biggest monthly decline, and C and C++ also see modest drops.

Why C# Is Closing the Gap with Java in the Latest TIOBE Rankings

According to the TIOBE Index, which measures programming language popularity based on engineers, courses, vendors and search engine results, the November 2023 ranking was released.

Top 5 Languages

Python remains #1 with 14.16% share, down 3.02% this month.

C is #2 with 11.7% share, down 3.31%.

C++ is #3 with 10.36% share, down 0.39%.

Java falls to #4 with 8.35% share, down 3.63% (largest drop).

C# climbs to #5 with 7.65% share, up 3.40% (largest gain).

All four languages (Python, C, C++, Java) declined this month, with Java dropping the most, while C# gained the most, narrowing the gap with Java to just 0.7%.
