Docker, a well‑known container vendor, saw its enterprise services unit acquired by Mirantis for $35 million, while Docker Desktop remains with Docker. Before this, Docker had raised $270 million, making it a unicorn, but its enterprise business was sold. The rise of open‑source Kubernetes, backed by Google and the CNCF, eroded Docker’s market, illustrating the challenges open‑source companies face when competing with cloud providers.
