WWDC 2026 Preview: Siri Overhaul and Apple’s AI Push

Apple’s worldwide developer conference WWDC 2026 will be streamed on June 9 (Pacific Time) and can be watched via the Apple Developer app, website, or YouTube channel.

Siri’s AI Overhaul

The most anticipated update is a complete reconstruction of Siri into a context‑aware, multi‑step, cross‑app conversational assistant. The upgrade will leverage Google’s Gemini technology, and Bloomberg reports that Apple plans a standalone Siri app to compete directly with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. The new app will also feature automatic conversation deletion options, allowing users to set retention periods of 30 days, one year, or keep chats permanently.

AI Agent App Store

According to The Information, Apple intends to integrate AI agent capabilities into the App Store, enabling agents to handle delegation tasks such as bookings, daily‑task management, document editing, and smart‑home control, though detailed policies have not yet been disclosed.

Camera and Photos App Upgrades

MacRumors leaks indicate the Camera app will add a dedicated “Visual Intelligence” section, replacing the previous button‑based feature, and will include a Siri‑only mode alongside standard photo, video, portrait, and panorama options. Visual Intelligence will use Google Image Search to recognize captured objects. The Photos app will receive Apple Intelligence‑driven updates, offering AI‑generated scene‑optimization recommendations, automatic object removal, natural‑language photo editing, and new productivity features for visionOS.

Image Playground Updates

Apple’s AI image‑generation tool Image Playground will be upgraded to produce higher‑quality graphics with more artistic styles, better character consistency, and richer editing tools. The creation interface will be streamlined, and a new “description edit” feature will let users refine generated images via natural language. Additionally, a Genmoji recommendation system may suggest custom emojis based on user media and text interactions, and users will be able to generate AI‑crafted wallpapers matching various themes and moods.

Apple Wallet Updates

The Wallet app will gain a split‑bill feature that creates payment requests for multiple people from a photographed receipt, as well as a “Create Credential” option that digitizes physical tickets, passes, and gym cards into the wallet.

System‑wide Updates

macOS, iPadOS, visionOS, watchOS, and tvOS will all receive updates focused on full‑device adaptation to the revamped AI‑enabled Siri, the addition of more AI functionalities, and overall system stability improvements.
