Chinese Companies Reach New DevOps Maturity Levels – Real Success Cases
Amid China’s digital transformation, enterprises are adopting DevOps to boost IT efficiency, with the 2023 DevOps Survey showing rising agility and continuous delivery capabilities; over 60% achieve full maturity, and notable case studies include FAW‑Volkswagen and Midea’s iBUILDING platform demonstrating measurable performance gains.
In the context of digital transformation, Chinese enterprises are increasingly adopting DevOps to improve IT efficiency. The 2023 China DevOps Survey shows continued growth in DevOps adoption, with enhanced agility and continuous delivery capabilities, and about 60% of firms reaching full‑maturity levels.
The "R&D Operations Integration (DevOps) Capability Maturity Model" series of standards, led by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), has been adopted as an international standard (ITU‑T Y.3525) since July 2020, covering more than 20 industries and evaluating over a hundred companies.
Continuous Delivery (Standard 3) Compliance
FAW‑Volkswagen is the first automotive company to participate in the CAICT DevOps standard assessment. The evaluated projects are the “OTD Order Delivery Management Platform” and the “Volkswagen Brand Dealer Multi‑Function Ecosystem Platform.”
The assessment refined performance metrics for FAW‑Volkswagen’s R&D efficiency platform, establishing a full‑process measurement and visualization system. Data‑driven visualization from requirement to release enables rapid anomaly detection, problem localization, and continuous improvement of delivery efficiency and quality.
Key improvement outcomes include: automated build success rate >90%, average pipeline duration <10 minutes, automated API test success rate >95%, 100% API coverage, unit test line coverage >50%, and red‑light fix time kept under 3 hours.
Systems and Tools (Standard 8) Compliance
Midea iBUILDING achieved compliance for six standards across its iBUILDING continuous delivery platform.
The iBUILDING platform provides four modules: build & continuous integration, pipeline, release management, and application configuration management. Its pipeline system passed the DevOps capability maturity assessment in April 2023.
The platform offers efficient project build, configuration, and release capabilities, an intuitive task creation and execution UI, flexible task configuration, comprehensive logs, multi‑type release and custom approval flows, multi‑environment application configuration, permission management, subscription and push features, and an open platform that integrates with code repositories, artifact stores, and instant‑messaging tools.
The iBUILDING security assurance platform serves as a security foundation, delivering comprehensive software security protection, rapid vulnerability detection, and remediation to ensure safe development and deployment.
Overview of the DevOps Capability Maturity Model
The model, jointly developed by CAICT, the Cloud Computing Open Source Industry Alliance, the Efficient Operations Community, and major internet companies (BATJ), provides authoritative guidance for industries such as finance, telecommunications, and internet services. It defines processes (agile development management, continuous delivery, technical operations), application design, security and risk management, systems and tools, business value management, collaborative development and operations, continuous testing, performance measurement, platform engineering, and reliability engineering.
