Enterprise Architecture Roles and Responsibilities in Disciplined Agile

Several roles are related to enterprise architecture and team/project‑level architecture. These are roles, not job titles; a small organization may have one person covering all, while a large organization may have many fine‑grained positions. For Disciplined Agile (DA™) enterprise architecture the following roles are defined:

Enterprise Architect (EA) : responsible for envisioning, communicating and developing the organization’s enterprise architecture, covering organizational structure, business processes and strategy, value streams, data and information, supporting technology, and how they evolve over time.

Chief Enterprise Architect : leads the enterprise architecture team; typically an EA with additional leadership responsibilities.

Architecture Owner (AO) : guides teams in architecture/solution decisions, especially solution‑delivery teams; works closely with the EA and may also serve as the EA. This is a team‑level role sometimes called Agile Solution Architect or Agile Architect.

Chief Architect (CAO) : a project‑level role that leads all architectural work for a project; usually a senior AO with leadership duties, collaborating closely with the EA and sometimes acting as the EA.

Specialist Architect : a meta‑role for architects focusing on specific aspects of enterprise architecture. Table 1 lists possible specialist architect types.
