The conference highlighted that the IoT market has entered a rapid growth phase, with billions of devices already connected worldwide. Key characteristics include massive connection scale, value derived from traffic and application services, centralized data processing, high latency, and high transmission costs.

From "Everything Connected" to "Everything Intelligent"

Future IoT development is expected to shift from simple connectivity to intelligent services powered by AI. While current value comes from sheer connection volume and traffic, the next stage will focus on data analysis, mining, and AI‑enabled insights to unlock new business opportunities.

Edge Computing as an Enabler

Edge computing, combined with central and hybrid clouds, will make IoT data processing more distributed, reducing network latency and enhancing data privacy. Tencent’s edge strategy includes three solution tiers:

Edge Cloud (EC5000) : Large‑scale edge data centers positioned close to users.

Edge Pod (EC500) : Compact edge appliances for scenarios such as smart buildings.

Edge Box (EC100) : Ultra‑lightweight edge nodes for ultra‑low‑latency use cases.

These solutions support workloads like video, cloud gaming, and intelligent building control.

Tencent’s IoT Stack

Tencent has built a full‑stack IoT ecosystem covering a proprietary IoT operating system, chip integration, edge devices, LoRa‑based network infrastructure, cloud‑side device and connection management, and industry‑specific application services.

The IoT OS integrates partner chips and modules, while edge devices run lightweight OS, containerized services, MQTT, and standardized IoT data formats. The cloud platform offers device management, connectivity management, and application enablement for developers.

LoRa Network Deployment

In Q4, Tencent launched the largest LoRa network in Shenzhen, achieving continuous coverage across key districts. The network is intended to be an open‑access platform for developers, partners, and end‑users, fostering a healthy IoT ecosystem.

Smart Building and IoT Badge Use Cases

Edge Pod solutions are being applied to smart building deployments, integrating control of elevators, HVAC, lighting, and access systems. Tencent also introduced an IoT‑enabled smart conference badge that functions as a development board, allowing attendees to experiment with sensor data (temperature, humidity, PM2.5) and cloud connectivity.
