How Amazon Sees Belt & Road Accelerating China's Cross‑Border E‑Commerce
Amazon China's vice president explains how the Belt and Road initiative offers policy support, creates export opportunities, and drives manufacturing firms to adopt cross‑border e‑commerce for transformation and growth amid rising costs and competitive pressures.
On May 15, Amazon China vice president and head of Global Selling for the Asia‑Pacific region, Dai Jingfei, shared her perspective on the Belt and Road strategy and its implications for cross‑border e‑commerce.
She stated that the Belt and Road initiative provides policy support that fuels the further development of cross‑border e‑commerce, generating massive export opportunities for China while also encouraging improvements in product quality, innovation, and brand awareness.
Dai highlighted that continued advancement of Belt and Road will sustain policy backing for the industry. She cited the establishment of the Hangzhou Cross‑Border E‑Commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone, noting Amazon's cooperation with the zone through a memorandum of understanding to develop e‑commerce talent and launch joint projects that help local manufacturers, brands, startups, and SMEs transition via cross‑border e‑commerce.
She also emphasized that Belt and Road promotes complementary advantages and open development. As a major manufacturing nation, China benefits from strong production capacity, but rising labor costs and profit pressures are pushing traditional manufacturers to seek new growth paths; the initiative offers strategic direction and policy support for this transformation.
Finally, Dai concluded that the Belt and Road strategy presents a significant opportunity for cross‑border e‑commerce, believing that more manufacturing firms will leverage e‑commerce platforms to achieve rapid growth and successful transformation.
