In the era of multimodal AI large models, Baidu’s AI technology has dramatically expanded cognitive boundaries and upgraded sensory experiences, unlocking the potential of creative work.

Background

Baidu uses AI to empower design, creating diversified ecosystem value. After the successful “pinch‑to‑summarize” feature in the Baidu APP, a new “pinch‑to‑view morning/evening report” interaction was launched on the homepage to provide quick access to daily hot topics.

Design Process

1. Building an Ordered, Structured Framework

The experience flow was split into three stages: pre‑pinch guidance – pinch trigger – content generation page . The focus was on the post‑pinch content loading and hand‑off page.

Four prototype frameworks were explored, ultimately selecting a large‑image card layout to simplify information hierarchy and improve readability for a broad user base.

2. Crafting a Pioneering Visual Design Language

Four design innovations were identified: title typography, top background, content summary, and loading thumbnail.

The visual language combines “intelligent feel” with a “magazine style”. Two headline fonts were chosen: Baidu’s official brand font for stability and a bold italic font for speed and magazine‑like impact.

Additional visual elements such as sun and moon icons, diamond‑shaped stars, and AI‑highlighted quotes were integrated to convey time of day and AI perception.
