The COVID‑19 pandemic created a “dual‑temperature” effect on China's SaaS market: remote‑work solutions such as video conferencing, enterprise cloud storage and e‑contract platforms surged, while SaaS serving physical‑industry sectors like catering and tourism suffered severe setbacks.

Data shows that on the first day of work resumption, tens of millions of enterprises and nearly two hundred million people adopted remote‑office SaaS, with products like WeChat Work, Tencent Meeting, DingTalk, WeLink and Feishu becoming overnight hits. In the United States, Zoom’s daily downloads jumped from under 4,000 to over 50,000, and its stock rose 15% in a single day.

Beyond remote‑office tools, SaaS for intelligent pandemic‑response robots, health‑reporting applications, electronic contracts and online education also experienced explosive growth in China.

However, many SaaS firms faced a “double‑danger”: soaring operational costs due to the surge in digital‑transformation demand, and a sharp decline in revenue projections for the next six months. Smaller SaaS providers in catering, travel and fitness are expected to exit the market, and recovery of operating data may take two to three months, with financing taking four to six months.

In the long term, the pandemic accelerated digital transformation, making cloud‑based SaaS a critical component of enterprise survival. Companies must deepen industry‑specific knowledge, improve customer success, enhance security, and integrate SaaS with big data, AI and 5G to support future growth.
