How ICBC’s Digital Wealth Management Platform Drives High‑Quality Banking Transformation

ICBC Software Development Center launched a wealth‑management digital operation service platform to boost the bank’s clearing capacity and improve financial‑management efficiency. The platform spans all customer groups, channels, products, journeys and scenarios, and is based on ICBC’s self‑developed “distributed architecture + cloud‑computing platform + full‑stack domestic” technology stack, offering high elasticity, easy extensibility and five core capabilities: fine‑grained accounting, centralized clearing, agile support, intelligent risk control, and collaborative sharing. The solution won the second‑prize Business Integration Innovation track in the 2024 China Academy of Information and Communications Technology “Dingxin Cup”.

The platform models fund, wealth, trust and insurance products and extracts common functions such as fund clearing, revenue management and risk control to build a wealth‑management fund‑operation capability center. These functions are aggregated into workbenches, dashboards, large‑screen displays and todo centers, and are linked to sales, accounting, risk and partner systems, forming a complete, closed‑loop, extensible fund‑operation system (see Fig 1).

1. Centralized efficient clearing : The workflow is optimized through internal‑external coordination and departmental linkage, achieving dual improvements in bank‑side and institution‑side clearing speed and delivering near‑real‑time “fast clearing”. Parameters can be configured per partner, sales department or product type, supporting cash‑management, pension and foreign‑currency products.

2. Lean accounting with business‑finance integration : An intelligent accounting engine covers all products and scenarios, automatically captures product information and subscription/redemption trades, and allows flexible accounting parameters, driving automated processing and markedly improving finance‑business integration.

3. Agile operational support : Public service modules for data exchange, fund clearing, revenue accounting and account management are reused for new products. Real‑time monitoring of clearing status visualizes progress and enables full‑process view management.

4. Intelligent risk control : Leveraging AI and large‑model technologies, the platform builds a full‑link risk‑prevention matrix (Fig 2). Machine‑learning and big‑data models predict fund‑arrival timeliness and trigger alerts for transaction delays or fund‑transfer blockages. Visual dashboards—including a personal workbench, aggregated metrics and a decision‑support cockpit—provide early risk identification and intervention.

5. Open collaborative sharing : The platform strengthens inter‑institution and inter‑system connectivity, sharing key clearing status with front‑office teams in real time and enabling two‑way digital interaction of contracts, products, fees and VAT with partners, thereby reducing manual offline processing and enhancing partner operational efficiency.

Since its launch, the platform has run stably and empowered high‑quality wealth‑management growth: it now manages over 7,000 products worth nearly 3 trillion RMB, processes daily clearing exceeding 400 billion RMB, and generates annual revenue above 100 billion RMB. Machine‑learning and big‑data analytics cut labor costs by roughly 30 % and provide dynamic monitoring of key operational indicators. The system achieves zero‑in‑transit funds for client purchases, giving customers an extra two days of interest per transaction, and real‑time clearing shortens redemption settlement by 7–8 hours.

Looking ahead, ICBC’s software center will continue digitizing the next‑generation fund‑operation system, deepen AI‑driven risk control and operation‑management applications, and further promote digital transformation across the banking industry’s wealth‑management sector.
